When a child begins primary education at Gaelscoil Uí Drisceoil, he/she becomes a member of a learning community with a multi denominational, gaelic speaking, co educational, children centred and democratically run ethos.

Digital Literacy Initiative: Myon

Beimid ag díriú isteach ar litearthacht (Béarla) an leath –théarma seo agus tá áthas orainn go bhfuil Myon againn sa scoil do Rang 2 go Rang 6.  Moltar Myon a dhéanamh le do pháiste sa bhaile gach tráthnóna. Tá níos mó eolas mar gheall ar Myon thíos!

We are focusing on Literacy (English) this term for classes 2nd to 6th and using Myon to support children’s reading at home.  We recommend children use Myon as part of homework for at least 15 minutes per day.  Please see additional information below. 

myON is a computer program that helps teachers manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Each pupil chooses a book at his/her own level and reads it at his/her own pace. When finished, the pupil takes a short quiz on the computer – passing the quiz is an indication that the pupil has understood what has been read.

Teachers help each pupil choose books that are appropriate to his/her reading level. These will be challenging without being frustrating and will also be at a level at which the pupil can pass the quiz and experience success.
